Eligibility
To be eligible, a student must:
- Enroll in a degree program (or in the Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, or Radiography Certificate programs or completing Teacher Certification to become licensed)
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (permanent resident)
- Be making satisfactory academic progress
- Be registered for Selective Service (if applicable) and
- Not be in default on a prior federal loan nor owe an amount on a prior federal grant due to overpayment
Financial Need
Most forms of financial aid are awarded on the basis of financial need. The information provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your EFC is an amount determined by the U.S. Congress as available to meet your cost of attendance. If you are an undergraduate student, information on the College Board’s CSS/PROFILE application will also be used to determine eligibility.
Cost of Attendance includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, meals, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses.
Expected Family Contribution considers income and assets, employment costs, allowances for living expenses, taxes, family size, and the number of college students.
Financial Need is simply the Cost of Attendance minus the Expected Family Contribution.
