Summer Financial Aid  
 Summer Aid Information
Note: Forms and applications for financial aid for approaching summer terms are updated around early March every year. Please also check the General Annual Financial Aid Calendar and the University Academic Calendar to help you plan for an upcoming summer session.
 
 Application Procedures
bullet All students applying for summer aid for 2010 must submit the 2009-2010 FAFSA to the federal processing agency no later than April 1 if you have not already done so.
bullet The 2010-2011 FAFSA cannot be used for the 2010 summer term aid.
bullet The CSS Profile Form is not required for summer aid.
bullet In addition to the FAFSA, all students, other than Dental School, should submit the Summer Aid -- Application for Non-Dental Students Only  to the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid no later than April 1.
bullet In addition to the FAFSA, Dental School students only should submit the web forms:
  1) Summer Aid -- Application for Dental Students Only , and
  2) Summer Aid -- Dentistry Rotation (3rd year only)
no later than March 15.
 
 Application Deadline
bullet April 1 for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals.
bullet March 15 for Dental School students.
bullet Applications will not be accepted after the first day of classes for each summer session.
 
 Students Eligible for Aid
bullet Students enrolled during Spring Semester 2010 in a degree program.
bullet Students not enrolled in Spring Semester 2010, but who have been enrolled at UNC previously, and who are readmitted for summer and are academically eligible.
bullet Students never enrolled at UNC, but who are admitted to a program that requires enrollment in the summer.
 
 Students Not Eligible for Aid
bullet Students not in a degree or certificate program.
bullet Part-Time Classroom Studies students not admitted to a degree program.
bullet Visiting students from other colleges/universities.
bullet Students admitted beginning the summer of 2010 for whom summer attendance is not required as a condition of admission.
bullet Students who did not complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA by April 1, 2010.
 
 Enrollment Plans
bullet Undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 6.0 hours during the summer to receive a Federal Stafford Loan. Other aid programs might be available on a very limited basis to students enrolled for less than 6 hours.
bullet Graduate and professional students must be enrolled for at least 4.5 hours during the summer to receive a Federal Stafford Loan.
bullet If your enrollment plans change, please contact the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid as soon as possible.
 
 Types of Financial id
bullet Federal Pell Grant. Available to undergraduate students based on financial need and federal funding policies.
bullet Federal Stafford Loan. Available to undergraduate students enrolled for at least 6 hours who did not borrow the federal maximum amount during the academic year. Available to graduate students enrolled for at least 4.5 hours who did not borrow the federal maximum during the academic year.
bullet Federal PLUS Loan. Available to parents of undergraduate, dependent students enrolled for at least 6 credit hours. Available to graduate students enrolled for at least 4.5 credit hours. Credit worthiness of the borrower will be considered.
bullet Federal Work-Study Program. Available, dependent upon federal funding, to students who had Work-Study employment during the academic year.
bullet Federal Perkins Loan. May be available based on federal funding.
bullet Alternative Loans Program. Available to students who have no remaining federal aid eligibility, but need assistance to attend. Eligibility is determined by the lender, but typically requires 6 hours of enrollment and a specified level of credit worthiness.
 
 Summer 2010 Budget
 Academic Affairs Tuition and Fees for Half-Time (6 hours Undergrads / 4.5 hours Grads)

The tuition and fee charges for the majority of programs in Health Affairs cover up to six credit hours per term. The costs vary according to the program and degree. Information about summer charges in Health Affairs can be obtained from the Cashier’s Office or the specific schools.
 
Course fees: No course fees allowed in standard budgets unless we know that all students in the program are required to take specific fee-based courses in the summer.  Other course fees may be included on appeal, if we have proof student pre-registered or registered for the course.
 
 Typical Budget for Half-Time (6 hours for Undergrads / 4.5 hours for Grads)
