The Scholarships Resource Center is a research center that collects scholarship information from local and national organizations outside the University. Our collection houses a useful scholarship book and binder collection to assist students with their scholarship search. All current and prospective students and their families are encouraged to utilize the Center to maximize their opportunities for educational funding.
Graduate students from the School of Information and Library Science staff the Scholarships Resource Center and are available to help students get started in their search and to answer questions along the way.
It is important to note that "outside" sources of funding may affect the amount of need-based financial aid you are allowed to receive in your total financial aid award package. If you receive "outside" scholarships or aid, you must submit our "Outside Scholarships and Resources Reporting Form" form to the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid.
What Resources Do We Have?
- Unique Scholarships Requiring Self-Nomination or Special Application
There are quite a few scholarships at UNC-CH that have very unique and specific stipulations made by the donor. Because of their uniqueness, it often helps our office award these scholarships when potential recipients step forward and self-identify themselves to our office. Click here to view a PDF file of these scholarships or contact our office for more information.
- Scholarships Book Collection
Hand-chosen yearly by staff, the book collection is a great resource to begin your scholarship search. You’ll find in this collection books emphasizing scholarships for specific academic pursuits, scholarships for specific populations, scholarships for study abroad, scholarships based on merit, and general scholarships that combine these different categories.
- Scholarships Binder Collection
Our binder collection contains information and application materials about scholarship opportunities we have gathered from different organizations around the country. Organized loosely by the scholarship qualifications, students are encouraged to look through all the binders that could ertain to them.
- Scholarships Resource Center Guides
The staff at the Center knows that searching for scholarships is a major time commitment for students and their parents. Knowing that everyone can’t make it to our office during our weekday hours, we have put together useful handouts that students can take with them to assist in their searching outside of our Center. These include a helpful Web Resources Guide and lists of scholarship book titles for both undergraduate and graduate students that can be found in other libraries on campus that offer evening and weekend hours.
Other Websites to Search
If you are unable to visit the Scholarships Resource Center in person, there are many online sites and searchable databases that you can review to obtain information about various outside scholarships for which you might qualify. Visit our Outside Scholarships Search page for a sampling of these websites to check out.
