Remember the 5 R’s for Financial Aid Success:

REGISTER for aid. Complete the FAFSA and PROFILE forms.
RECORD everything!!! Make copies of all documents and keep copies of all information you receive from UNC.
RESPOND to requests for additional information promptly.
REVIEW your Financial Award Notification and make sure all assumptions made are correct. Look carefully for any instructions you may need to follow.
RECEIVE funds promptly.

OSSA/Student Communication Calendar

So that you will know when to expect to hear from us, here is the communication plan the staff in the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid (OSSA) has developed.

April	OSSA begins sending Financial Aid Notifications for upcoming academic year to first-year undergraduate students who completed the FAFSA and PROFILE by March 1 and have complete applications.
May	OSSA begins sending upcoming academic year Financial Aid Notifications to continuing undergraduate students who completed the FAFSA and PROFILE by March 1 and have complete applications.
June	SSA begins sending upcoming academic year Financial Aid Notifications to entering and returning graduate and professional students who completed the FAFSA by March 1.
July	OSSA begins sending upcoming academic year Financial Aid Notifications to all applicants whose applications were not complete by March 1.

Here is how you can help us!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE turn in requested information IMMEDIATELY, COMPLETELY, and ACCURATELY!! We want to get your award notice to you as soon as we possibly can!
Instead of calling, check your Application Status on the web at http://studentaid.unc.edu! We are all working very hard to get your aid processed. Typically, during the summer, we receive a phone call every 6 seconds! The more time we spend answering the phone, the less time we have to actually do the work!
Before calling, please read all information carefully! The answer to your question may already be in your printed materials. This will save you time and money not having to make a long-distance phone call.
If you must call, please help us provide prompt and efficient service. Please have the student’s PID number and all your questions ready before calling.
