We are here to help

The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid has funding available to assist during times of unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters. Thanks to generous donors contributing to the impact fund, when sudden needs arise unexpectedly, we are here to help.

Examples of expenses we can assist with due to losses may include:

• Replacement of laptop, books, clothing and/or supplies
• Extra transportation expenses for students to visit/assist at home
• If needed extra housing during breaks if there is not an appropriate or available home to return to during breaks
• Additional needs for food due to the hurricane

You may also find that your family’s financial circumstances have suddenly changed and their income is temporarily impacted, or perhaps there was a loss of assets. In the event this occurs we can do a reconsideration of your financial aid due to loss of income.

You will be asked to provide documentation and an explanation of the expenses, or losses incurred when you request assistance and there are limitations on the assistance provided.

Please Note: We are not able to help cover the costs of expenses that are covered by insurance such as home repairs, home replacement, car replacement etc.

UNC System Funding for Hurricane Helene

The North Carolina General Assembly has provided additional funding to also assist students impacted by Hurricane Helene. This also allows us to assist with spring tuition and fee expenses.  You can use the assistance request form below to request funding if you are experiencing a hardship in paying for tuition and fees, among the other items listed in the section above, which may be covered from this generous additional funding.
