Fixed Tuition

For North Carolinians this means the tuition rate will not increase during the first eight consecutive semesters of Fall and Spring enrollment from when you first enroll and being at Carolina.

FSA ID

An FSA ID consists of the account username and password that give you access to the U.S. Department of Education’s online systems and that can serve as your legal signature when completing electronic documents such as the FAFSA, and loan requirements.

Graduate Student

A student who has already earned a bachelor’s degree and is pursuing additional education in specific field in a graduate, or grad professional school program.

Grant repayment

If you withdraw from your courses, you may owe back a portion of your grant as it is offered based on enrollment.

Grants

Aid that is awarded based on financial need. This type of aid does not have to be paid back as long as you remain enrolled while you are receiving it.

Half-Time Enrollment

Half-time enrollment for the academic year is defined as 6 hours for undergraduate, and 4.5 hours for graduate/professional school enrollment. If you are enrolled in less than half-time you are not eligible for federal loan programs. Additionally, if you drop below half-time enrollment borrowed loans can begin to go into repayment.

Half-Time Enrollment

You are considered enrolled half-time when you are taking 6 hours as an undergraduate student or 4.5 hours as a graduate/professional school student. You must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to borrow loans.

Home Insitution

The school in which you are admitted as a degree-seeking student and the school from which you will earn your degree.

Home School

The institution in which you are enrolled and will receive your degree.

Homeless

A homeless individual is someone without a home who generally lives in shelters, parks, motels, hotels, cars, or with someone else due to not having anywhere else to go. Homeless individuals can still receive federal student aid.
