Financial Aid Calendar

General Annual Calendar of Items Related to Financial Aid

Note: For dates relating to academic events and items, view the University’s Academic Calendar.

January

  • The FAFSA is available for the upcoming year.  See Apply For Aid.
  • Undergraduates complete the CSS/PROFILE application for the upcoming year.  See Apply for Aid.
  • Spring semester financial aid electronically disburses to students’ Student Accounts & University Receivables (cashier’s) accounts.  Monitor your financial aid and University student account via your my.unc.edu ConnectCarolina Student Center.  See Disbursement FAQ’s.

February

  • All students submit the FAFSA to meet the March 1 priority deadline. Undergraduates complete the CSS/PROFILE to meet the March 1 priority deadline.
  • Enrollment agreements for Study Abroad Programs due February 15 for upcoming year-long and fall-only programs.

March

  • March 1 priority deadline for all students seeking financial aid to have submitted the FAFSA and, for undergraduates, also the CSS/PROFILE applications.  Applications received after March 1 are considered and awarded as funds permit.
  • Notification of aid eligibility begins for the upcoming year. All students notified by email sent to your official UNC-Chapel Hill email address. Awards may be viewed at your my.unc.edu ConnectCarolina Student Center “Financial Aid” pages. Financial aid notifications will continue throughout the year as applications are received.
  • Recipients of UNC internal merit-based scholarship are notified by mid-March.
  • Registration begins for summer sessions. Check the Summer School website for exact dates. Summer financial aid eligibility will automatically be determined for those with current financial aid applications from the prior school year.

April

  • Admitted first-year, incoming students who applied by March 1 are notified of eligibility for CCI (Carolina Computing Initiative) laptop grants and must purchase computers by May 1 to pick up and use in CTOPS Summer Orientation Sessions.
  • Students graduating in May who have Federal Direct or Stafford Loans must complete a required loan exit counseling session at StudentLoans.gov.
  • Students graduating in May who have Perkins Loans from UNC contact Student Accounts and University Receivables for required exit counseling information.

May

  • Students awarded a Federal Direct Loan, who haven’t already, complete loan Entrance Counseling at the Federal site.
  • Students awarded a Perkins Loan, who haven’t already, complete loan entrance counseling at ECSI’s website.
  • Summer Session I tuition is due. Check billing formation on the Student Accounts & University Receivables website for exact dates.

June

  • View your charges in my.unc.edu ConnectCarolina Student Center account at Student Accounts & University Receivables (cashier’s). Determine how you will pay your bill.
  • Summer Session II tuition is due. Check billing formation on the Student Accounts & University Receivables website for exact dates.

July

  • Fall tuition and fees are due. Check billing formation on the Student Accounts & University Receivables website for exact dates.

August

  • Attend Orientation Sessions for General Financial Aid Questions and Federal Work-Study Program Orientation.
  • Fall semester financial aid disburses to Student Accounts & University Receivables (cashier’s) the first week of classes for students with complete aid awards who are registered and meet eligility requirements. Students should monitor your financial aid and University student account via your my.unc.edu ConnectCarolina Student Center.  See Disbursement FAQs.
  • Federal Work-Study eligible students begin contacting supervisors to setup interview appointments to secure a job.

September

  • Enrollment Agreements for Spring Only and Summer Study Abroad programs are due.

October

  • First-year, incoming undergraduates for the upcoming year - Apply for admission through the Admissions Office undergraduate “Early Action” deadline for maximum consideration for UNC scholarships.
  • The Frances L. Phillips Travel Scholarship application deadline is October 15.

November

  • Enrolled students and prospective students search for outside scholarships for the next academic year.
