Athletics Scholarships

Athletics Scholarships

Athletics scholarships are determined by your coach. Our office processes athletics scholarships offers in combination with other eligible financial aid. Certain scholarship components are set up to pay billed expenses directly. The cashier’s office will apply the scholarship at the time of disbursement (7-10 days before the first day of classes) to your bill. If you have certain components that are not set up to directly pay charges it may be applied to other charges on your bill prior to receiving any eligible refunds.

Scholarship Components

Scholarship components are based on your athletics scholarship agreement (ASA). You can learn more below about the different components such as how and when you will receive the scholarship components in your offer.

If you are receiving a scholarship that covers tuition it will pay tuition charges directly at the time of disbursement. This component can only be applied to tuition charges and will not apply to other billed charges. It will be set up for the semester it applies to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

If you are receiving a scholarship that covers fees it will pay required student fees directly at the time of disbursement. This component can only be applied to required student fees and will not apply to other billed charges or provided to you in a refund. It will be set up for the semester it applies to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

If you are receiving a scholarship that covers housing how the scholarship amount is applied will depend on your housing choice.

  • Athletics Room On-Campus: This can only pay on-campus room charges, this amount cannot be refunded to you or applied to other charges.
  • Athletics Room: This amount is disbursed towards your bill, if you do not have other charges present that were not covered by additional scholarship or financial aid, this will be refunded to you.
  • Athletics Room B: If you have a ‘B’ next to your athletics room award it means you are receiving monthly checks from your athletics program for housing expenses, we will not disburse any of these funds from our office.

If your housing expenses exceed the budgeted amount of housing in the cost of attendance, please reach out to see if you can qualify for housing budget increase.

Athletics housing scholarships will be set up for the semester they apply to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

If you are receiving a scholarship that covers board/meals how the scholarship amount is applied will depend on your scholarship and your billed charges.

  • Athletics Board: This amount is disbursed towards your bill, it will pay for your meal plan charges if you have enrolled in a meal plan. If you have not enrolled in a meal plan then it will be processed into a refund for you to budget towards your meals.
  • Athletics Board B: If you have a ‘B’ next to your athletics board award it means you are receiving monthly checks from your athletics program for meal expenses, we will not disburse any of these funds from our office.

Athletics Board scholarships will be set up for the semester they apply to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

Your award will initially be named athletics books B. The ‘B’ means that this is a placeholder and will not disburse to your account. It shows you have a full book scholarship that will be paid to your student account once your book charges are processed with the bookstore. We work directly with the bookstore and athletics to apply your scholarship to your charges with the bookstore.

Sometimes the bookstore may not have a book you are required to have for your coursework. You will need to buy the book and provide receipt documentation to athletics compliance so we can add the Athletics GIA Book Reimbursement component to your aid offer to cover those charges. You will be reimbursed for that upfront expense you incur.

Athletics Books scholarships will be set up for the semester they apply to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

Athletics Grant In Aid/GIA is used for full scholarship recipients and includes the remaining parts of the cost of attendance such as travel, miscellaneous/personal items, etc. When you are receiving a full scholarship offer according to your athletics scholarship agreement, your cost of attendance is met through a combination of the awards described above and the rest of your scholarship is provided with this award. If you see a Grant in Aid B, that means the remaining aid will be included in monthly checks and not disbursed through our office.

Athletics GIA will be set up for the semester they apply to (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) depending on your athletics scholarship agreement.

If you are required to enroll in the university health insurance, Student Blue, for your sport, your scholarship may cover the expense. Typically we do not receive eligibility information for insurance until after the semester begins. You may have an unpaid health insurance charge on your student account, or other financial aid may pay towards that charge until we get the information from athletics compliance.

Once we get award information from athletics compliance, an award covering the insurance charge will be paid to your student account. This award will be named health insurance grant or student assistance fund, depending on your athletics scholarship agreement. It will then pay the insurance charge that was billed by campus health. If you had other aid temporarily covering that charge, that amount will be refunded to you after the charge is paid by the new award.
